The four original components of Kid and Conundrum met whilst doing community service in South London. Realising the error of their ways, through the redemptive qualities of compulsory labour and the ASBO, the four Kids joined forces to use their powers for good not evil. They quickly learned how to play different instruments on a crash course last May and set about creating a musical concept which would be a vessel for the hardship and heartache they had oft endured. The final member of the band to join, trumpet player Dick Christenbaum, was discovered playing for the Royal Symphony Orchestra in the Albert Hall. On one of their regular visits to the venue, the four founders spotted the boy's talent immediately and set about cajoling him into playing his trumpet in a more meaningful setting. Despite a penchant for wordiness, Kid and Conundrum prefer to let their music do the talking, and live by the maxim that most of the time it's better just to shut up and play.
And when playing, Kid and Conundrum lay before you a smorgasbord of sounds and delights for your listening pleasure. Cunning music and words are framed within a sound which is often loud, quiet, loud quiet, then often loud again. The real genius of Kid and Conundrum is the rhythmic groove-laden backline of jumpy bass and drums, sketched upon with melodies and words of well-crafted alternative-sounding songs; all testifying to the random mix of influences behind the band's eclectic song-writing.
As well as several gigs around London in the last year, Kid and Conundrum have a regular residency at Native Tongue in their home town of Epsom and have released a 4 track EP called Let’s Just Say You’re Taking Advice From and Old Friend. They are currently recording new and exciting musics.
