Track Information: 'Indian Rope Man' and 'Troubleman'. The Hip City Jukebox is proud to include two 100% exclusive live tracks from Brian Augers Oblivion Express that have never released in any format before. 'Indian Rope Man' is a live reworking of a classic tune Brian recorded in the late 1960's for the ground-breaking, genre defying 'Streetnoise' album - and 'Troubleman' displays Brians treatment of a classic Marvin Gaye recording - both tracks highlight the amazing ability and highly defined grooves that have made Brian Auger one of the most respected and innovative jazz inspired artists of the 50 years
Brian Auger has always been the musician's musician. Jazz pianist, band leader, Hammond B3 innovator, hardcore Goon fan and key player in the rise of jazz/rock fusion. Brian has done it all and then some. An incredible gentleman with one of the most varied careers in music, he has incorporated jazz, early British pop, R & B, soul and rock into an incredible catalogue that has won him legions of fans right around the world...and the undisputed title of 'The Godfather of Acid Jazz'. The many highlights' of Brian's career are almost too numerous to list: winner of the Melody Maker Jazz Poll in 1964, part of the 'supergroup' Steampacket which featured Long John Baldry, Julie Driscoll and Rod Stewart in the line up and captivated Mod London in 1965, He also hit the heights of the pop charts in the late 60's with his version of Bob Dylan's' 'This Wheel's On Fire' and also takes credit as the leader one of the first jazz fusion bands to make serious inroads into the separate worlds, of jazz, soul, rock and pop - which culminated in Brian Augers Oblivion Express 1973 album 'Closer To It' entering the jazz and R&B charts at the same time - a feat never achieved before! Brian has also had his songs covered by artists like The Main Ingrediant, Sarah Vaughan and Groove Holmes. The revival of interest in all things jazz of the 90's allowed Auger to capitalise on his genre spanning career - and his latest version of his legendary band 'The Oblivion Express' features his son Karma on drums and daughter Savannah on vocals - the band tour constantly across the US and Europe to all the different generations of fans enthralled by Augers' thrilling keyboard playing, relentless energy and good humour.
